Hello, Ojai Bellydance Festival is in August this year (you are, of course, invited). I ran into Blume at Santa Anita and she said she wants to move her event to August for 2009 Blume & I chatted about moving Ojai Fest to Spring 2009. For some of *our * folks, August conflicts with ME Camp in Mendocino ... OY! LOL ... please let me know if you plan to move HoF to spring 2009 ... Ojai and Palmdale are fairly close ... so I would like to have enough space between events that people can do both and so that WE might visit HoF };> Back in 2000 when we did Ojai Tribal Days with Kajira ... it was easy to pick a date ... it was the only tribal event in So Cali };> Glad to see the scene so vibrant and growing 8 years later };> Never got to attend HoF ... we lived in Portland as that event grew ... but as our new troupe takes form ... definitely want to attend ... so please keep in touch about the dates. That's a great idea Lisa! It would totally help on wallet-strain for participants too. (Why can't money grow on trees?? Why, Why?? ) Which means the vendors would probably end up making more and working less.

A year off is not a bad thing... I know of other events that are skipping '08 and are deep into planning for '09. Maybe every-other year is a better long-range plan. Esp. if ongoing events could alternate with each other. Would likely contribute greatly to producer's overall well-being and sanity.

Hey Janie, when is Wiggles going to be in 09? Blume just told me that our local MECDA chapter moved our usual Feb event to Aug. So, HoF won't be in Aug. :( So I have to see if there's even another time where I won't be competing with something I don't want to compete with!

It's true. No Hips of Fury this year. Lots of reasons, including getting screwed by our venue so we will never ever go back there again, and not being able to find an affordable one for this year, having another quality Alternative show move to the spot we normally used (because someone moved in on their usual spot), but had vacated last year because of venue scheduling problems, having another quality alternative show the same weekend we moved to last year (they'd been there a few years, and we didn't realize), having another local competition start including alternative styles as soon as HoF was started, oversaturation, etc. Hopefully we'll be able to do it in Aug 09. Mark your calendars. :) In the meantime, support Wiggles of the West, EEMED, and other small-company quality events. Some of my very favorite shows EVAR are the ones produced by fellow belly dancers. (Especially the ones who are doing so in an effort to elevate the art form more than just trying to make a buck)
